<br />
What?!<br />
<br />
Her two front teeth are going to pop through pretty soon. Daisy will now walk while holding our hands, which is adorable and pretty amazing. She is learning to walk! My little baby!<br />
<br />
Daisy is a climber. She will climb anything and everything.<br />
<br />
Her new favorite food is mac and cheese. I found a super easy and quick recipe on pinterest, and while it isn't exactly gourmet, it gets the job done without having to get the fake orange stuff. All you do is boil the noodles in milk. and when the noodles are cooked add cheese. Thats it. Again, not gourmet, but good enough for a little kid/big baby/I am not used to referring to Daisy as anything other than my tiny baby.<br />
<br />
<br />
It is definitely fall here. The colors are amazing, there are apples and pumpkins everywhere, and it is cold! We have had a great time taking family walks, and this weekend we have plenty of fall activities planned.<br />

Partially because if I set aside time to be on the computer to blog, it will help me to remember to write my brother Sam, who is on his mission in Brazil. I have only missed a week or two, but too often I am frantically typing an email with my thumbs on my phone about an hour before he gets to check his mail on p-day.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also I want to because I like keeping our friends and family all over the country involved in our life. I mean, we live in Wisconsin. Kind of out of the way for everyone we know (excluding our Wisconsin friends, obviously). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm trying to think of all the things that have happened since I last blogged, and there are just too many. That is another point of motivation. I have a terrible memory and I want to write it all down not only for our friends and family, but for us too! I want to remember all of Daisy's tomfoolery so I can make her feel guilty as a teenager. Kidding. Maybe.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The most traumatic event lately would definitely have to be almost a week ago. It was about 4 in the morning, and I was just waking up to Daisy crying. I had barely registered in my mind that I had to get up to see what the deal was when I heard a loud THUD and the saddest, loudest, scariest cry in all the land. I bolted out of bed and down the hall, and found Daisy on the floor sobbing and crawling towards me. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
K, my heart broke into a million pieces. My poor little baby!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I picked her up and ran into our bedroom, yelled "Daisy fell out of her crib!" to Jordan, who woke up instantly and we laid her down on our bed and checked her over from head to toe for injuries. Guys. This could have been so much worse. She could have been seriously hurt. Luckily, so so luckily, she was shaken but okay. Jordan then went straight into her room and lowered her crib to the lowest setting. It was pretty low to begin with, but I guess it was just high enough for her to get the momentum needed to send her over the edge. I keep thinking about how she could have managed that, and I just can't figure it out. She is a climber though, and a crafty one at that. Hopefully she won't figure out how to escape again anytime soon. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Daisy isn't walking yet, but she is crafty. She will line her walker up with the couch to her wagon or the kitchen chairs so that she can cruise without having to crawl or attempt to walk without support. She can totally stand on her own, but I think she lacks confidence because anytime she figures out that she isn't holding on to anything she sits down immediately. She won't let me walk her while holding hands either. She seems to think that if I'm there, I should pick her up. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Daisy gives kisses now! She will even kiss the phone screen when we facetime grandparents or Jordan when he travels. It's the best ever. She gives me kisses after she wakes in the morning and from her naps, and my heart melts every time. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
More often than not, Daisy is sleeping totally through the nights. THANK GOODNESS. A couple weeks ago I was struggling with whether to try to wean Daisy off of the last middle of the night nursing session. I decided to just keep on nursing her if she wanted it, with the hope that she would grow out of it. I guess she did, because probably 80% of the time she sleeps for 10-12 solid hours. So those rare occasions when she wants a night cap, I am happy to oblige. Cuddle time with my busy girl is scarce enough as it is, I'll take it when I can get it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Daisy loves her Papa again. For a while there she was in a HUGE Mama phase, where I could only be within arms reach at any time, and no one else would do. Not only am I more productive now that I can be more than a foot away from her, but she has so much love to give Jordan. It is really nice to see, because I know it is tough on Jordan to be away from us. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've got a lot of projects going on, maybe I'll write about those sometime. I mean, I AM a little more than a baby machine.</div>
<div>

<br />
I know you've all been so so sad that I haven't blogged in a long while. You must be at home, wondering if Daisy has gotten any cuter, if I've made anything cute or delicious, and if we have gone on any adventures.<br />
<br />
Let me set your minds at ease.<br />
<br />
Yes.<br />
<br />
<br />
K, here is what we have been up to.<br />
<br />
<br />
California again<br />
Crawling<br />
Standing<br />
Cruising (walking while holding on to furniture)<br />
Two teeth<br />
Florida<br />
Significantly easier bedtimes and longer nap times<br />
Garden bounty<br />
Homemade salsa and watermelon ice cream<br />
Preparations for the craft fair NEXT WEEK<br />
Breaking even celebration-she has been out longer than in!<br />
<br />
<br />
On Tuesday Daisy and I will fly to North Carolina to participate in the booth my Mom, sisters and I have in the Cary Lazy Daze art and craft fair. We have made a million things, including but not limited to: quilts, headbands for you and baby, baby shoes, purses, bibs, pacifier leashes, banners, etc. I am really excited about this trip, I think it will be a lot of fun to sell stuff with my mom, hang out with the family, and spend some time in the state I love. If you are in NC it's Saturday, August 25th, in downtown Cary. Come see us!<br />
<br />
Daisy is babbling even more now, and even started to wave at me. She dances to music, and gives kisses. She is as sweet as ever, and has so much love for her mama and papa. We love her to pieces.<br />
<br />

People were waaaayyyy too friendly to Daisy in Chinatown. A bunch of people took pictures of her, and one woman really overstepped some boundaries. We were in a little shop looking around, and a couple of the shopkeepers stopped to admire Daisy. She was in a little umbrella stroller (our big one was not going to fit in those little shops) and a woman knelt down to talk to Daisy. Before I could even realize what was even happening, she was unbuckling Daisy and picking her up. I am so mad at myself, because I FROZE. I wanted to yell, take her back, leave immediately, but I just stood there, and watched all tensed up as some stranger picked up my baby. I was holding this giant umbrella and kept thinking "Oh great, now I am going to have to stab some nice old lady in the middle of Chinatown to get my baby back". The lady just hugged Daisy, who hugged her back and then buckled her back up. However, my lesson was certainly learned. I did not stop the stroller for more than a few seconds for people to say hi after that. </div>

Daisy is 6 months old! She is just so much fun. Here are some updates on how she is growing:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
17 pounds! She has gained 10 pounds since birth. Since starting solids, she has had a major growth spurt. Must be all those mangoes, bananas, and pumpkin (her favorites). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have started sleep training. Before I get into it, let me say that let this not be a place for debate as to what method of sleep training will scar your baby more. I welcome tales of what works for you though, I could use all the help I can get! Anyways, we have completed a week and a half of the Ferber method and I have decided that we need to try something else. Our experience went like this: We were in a three night cycle. The first night would be just awful. Lots of crying (from mom and baby), and eventual sleep, with just as much waking up in the night. The second night would be a little better, crying but not as much, but still just as much midnight wakings. The third night, there would be little to no crying, but all the nighttime wakings. Then it would start all over again, even though we were doing the same thing each night. At the same time, her naps were getting worst. They went from 40-60 minutes to 20. No good. Obviously, this hasn't been working. Right now I am doing what we did before I started sleep training-putting her through her bedtime routine, then rocking her to the point of intense drowsiness, and putting her in her crib. I don't mind that method of getting her to sleep at all-I love cuddling her. I started looking into different methods because she wakes up a lot in the night, and I would like for her to start sleeping more consistently through the night. I realized the other day that with pregnancy and having a baby, I haven't had more than 4 hours of sleep at a time in about a year. I am really ready to sleep through the night, and I hope daisy is too. Moms of the internet, what worked for you?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Daisy LOVES solid food. She loves trying new things, and she is just so fascinated with what we eat. She really seems to enjoy sitting in her little chair with us at the dinner table, eating food like us. I look forward to when she gets teeth, so we can start giving her little pieces of our food. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Daisy has a new game, where she just HAS to get our hair in her mouth. She loves it. She lets out a screech, opens her mouth, and lunges forward until she has two fists and a mouth full of my hair or Jordan's beard. It's pretty funny, as long as her nails are trimmed and she doesn't get the tender temple hairs.</div>

That is her worst blow out to date, after I had rinsed most of it off. I just had to document how high it got up her body. We have many baths and wardrobe changes in our home. She also has started to try to escape diaper changes...so I clean her changing table a lot these days.</div>

Daisy also LOVES her dad. I am so so glad. I was worried that Daisy would be anxious around Jordan because he travels so much and works such long hours, but nope. She loves him. She is always excited to see him when he comes home, and I love seeing that. Our daily routine usually ends with me making dinner while Jordan plays with Daisy, and then while I clean up, he gets her ready for bed. I don't mind cooking and cleaning the kitchen each night because it gives Jordan a little more time to spend with his baby girl. </div>

<br />
I just checked the google analytics for this blog, and it said that some people found it through the google search, using "barefoot and pregnant". I thought I would try it out to see how close to the top by blog was.<br />
<br />
Big mistake.<br />
<br />
First off, I guess there are a ton of other blogs with this title.<br />
<br />
Second, most of them talked about the oppression of women...and while I am all for some equal respect between men and women...I am a very young stay at home mom that does all the cooking, cleaning, and irons my husbands shirts. Maybe not the voice of feminism those bloggers are looking for.<br />
<br />
Third, and most unfortunate of all...<br />
<br />
There is a ton of pregnancy themed porn out there. Thankfully I didn't use the google image search, so I only saw the link titles and short descriptions. But I saw enough to know that once you get past the 5th page of a google search, no good can be found.<br />
<br />
<br />
In other news, I am determined to look good when we go to the beach this July, so I am really amping up my weight loss efforts. So far I'm trying no sugar, no white flour, and pretty much no carbs. It's hard to fit in workouts with a baby, but my goals are to go jogging at least three times a week (I'm trying for every day, but I am also starting to sleep train Daisy...so she is not the happiest of campers) and I am doing a Pilates video I found on netflix. The great thing about that, is I don't feel super awkward because no one can see me if I close the blinds. I've been to workout classes before and just feel like a big clumsy fool. This way, I get to exercise without feeling embarrassed about messing up the moves! My point in telling the internet this, is I need some help. What do you do to stay fit? How do you ignore those raging chocolate/ice cream/fried chicken cravings? What has worked for you? If you have kids, how do you fit in working out?<br />
<br />
Thanks, internet. You're the best.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-69955237453392860632012-04-27T12:49:00.000-07:002012-04-27T12:49:46.712-07:00Firsts<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Daisy loves to sit up. Also spit up and drool, by the looks of her shirt.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ever since we had our visit to North Carolina, Daisy has been very anxious to grow up. I really do believe that spending so much time with her cousin Liam, who is two months older than her, influenced her desire to move around. Before our visit, she hated tummy time and only rolled occasionally. Since we have returned, she has mastered rolling, tummy time, and recently started trying to sit up. She can now stay sitting up if we place her there, but can't get up on her own. </div>

She loves it. Her favorites so far have been mangoes and bananas. She tolerates sweet potatoes, and seems to enjoy other vegetables like squash, carrots, spinach, and peas. Until I replace my blender, we are using these organic <a href="http://www.ellaskitchen.co.uk/" target="_blank">foods</a>. Once I get a new blender or a food processor, I will probably start making our own baby food-especially if our garden goes well.</div>

<div style="text-align: right;">
She kept pretty good spirits throughout the ordeal. This is a picture of her enjoying the evenings we would have in the bathroom, hoping the steam would help with her congestion. Thankfully, we are finally on the tail end of her first illness. She still has a runny nose, and her sleeping isn't back to what I would like it to be, but what her sleeping ever really great? No. It wasn't. </div>

Daisy is a great travel buddy-when the times of the flights don't interfere with her sleep too much. It was perfect-each flight was during her nap time, and timed just right so she woke up when we got off the plane and I could find a comfortable spot to feed and change her. I have done those things on the plane, but it definitely isn't ideal. Especially changing a diaper in a plane bathroom. That is tricky.<br /><br />Anyways, I was real excited to visit Jordan. This was perhaps his most stressful business trip (either a tie or a close second: his last trip before my due date. Poor guy was terrified I would go into labor without him). A big thing was happening with his jobs customer that he works with, and he was working very long days.<br /><br />Friday was a pretty low key day. Jordan had to work so Daisy and I hung out, went shopping, and saw a movie. Now, here is a part where I brag a little bit. There are a lot of cute babies out there. Really adorable babies. Daisy is one of them (in my humble opinion). But I am not the only one that feels this way. Every single time I venture out into the world-every time-someone stops to tell me how beautiful Daisy is. So we were walking into the movie theater, and we passed what one could call a "pimped out" suv. It was playing some music that appeared to be all bass, raised up, huge rims, etc. As I walked by with Daisy, I heard someone yell "Hey!" I turned to look, and all the windows were rolled down and one door was open with a young woman hanging out of it. She then yelled "She is so cute!" And lets be honest. She totally is.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK6oPV7eRcHcXrocu9Nivqno8XSzHUrlRqs2ynNV9XumGL6O25UKc5Ha5Fm2tPCGV2CnTscUyRnBDIXSEMkmOY0cF_xUHAs52ysAcQyqyM0whk3fJh6bcsAcHqmPPTJGhudLrxgjUP81ub/s1600/blog7.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK6oPV7eRcHcXrocu9Nivqno8XSzHUrlRqs2ynNV9XumGL6O25UKc5Ha5Fm2tPCGV2CnTscUyRnBDIXSEMkmOY0cF_xUHAs52ysAcQyqyM0whk3fJh6bcsAcHqmPPTJGhudLrxgjUP81ub/s400/blog7.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707593878342513282" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">Look at that little girl!</span><br /></div><br />I picked Jordan up at the end of the day, and we got to show Daisy off to all of his co-workers. We then headed to our fancy downtown hotel. One of the HUGE benefits of this little vacation is that Jordan's work paid for everything but my meals and airfare, since Jordan was still technically on a business trip. We were pretty tired, so we ordered some takeout-Cajun shrimp pesto pizza. Absolutely delicious.<br /><br />Saturday was the day that we celebrated my birthday, since Jordan was working most of Friday. The day started with a trip to the Ruby Slipper for brunch.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0e4nZQ_unlAGuRH7s4DeEClmZJM7UDq494LwqnPnFNxJBEIMy5xEIq3FtgtiFOxZ0RUjYT2BSQHvwZ6E22GS5uz7uD0NS-dr57UjmBJRJIOrHXmLvWtQf8uUwEr3q4tUJwJ3d_QutaMy/s1600/blog2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ0e4nZQ_unlAGuRH7s4DeEClmZJM7UDq494LwqnPnFNxJBEIMy5xEIq3FtgtiFOxZ0RUjYT2BSQHvwZ6E22GS5uz7uD0NS-dr57UjmBJRJIOrHXmLvWtQf8uUwEr3q4tUJwJ3d_QutaMy/s400/blog2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570403305204802" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">Here we are about to leave-does this remind anyone else of The Hangover?<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size:100%;">Jordan got salmon eggs Benedict and I got </span>blackberry cheesecake stuffed french toast. We shared, of course. So so so so delicious. Next we started walking around, heading towards the french quarter. We stopped by my favorite place in the world:<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mhlLkscnR6SL0CVm8JPzxn33IuNXP3sr1gDs05c4mkLF3dmS-iJ5SVhF1Hv6dFfiekKXIcmo-TtwofSThGZb9zjHFI6GNfI2mudGROd80iURiWsnagOlylqt6X6h5aJkWZJeodZCzKDt/s1600/photo-5.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mhlLkscnR6SL0CVm8JPzxn33IuNXP3sr1gDs05c4mkLF3dmS-iJ5SVhF1Hv6dFfiekKXIcmo-TtwofSThGZb9zjHFI6GNfI2mudGROd80iURiWsnagOlylqt6X6h5aJkWZJeodZCzKDt/s400/photo-5.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570069483307986" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">My parents used to order pralines from here every Christmas.<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size:100%;">We had a great time exploring the little shops, watching street performers, admiring street artists, and listening to every hipster gypsy band that has ever existed (seriously. There was a moustachioed tuba player and waif like cellist on every street corner). Daisy did great-she would nap in the baby bjorn like a pro, and we found a nice park to stop and nurse in. We did get some looks that seemed to say: "Why did you bring a baby to New Orleans?" but whatevs. She is a great baby to travel with.<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_KVc0lWBX19_agpM45RtC03yIOU1yZiFHWmfAlHwUIcdi3O5dmzAtenf4TpwKI5NjRtOaBr2wVjEKcfE934hRXo51w1U8ebgNQNMQb82QjvARwCvwDRoDS4JGabyajFpZFH6OKKJb75_p/s1600/blog4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_KVc0lWBX19_agpM45RtC03yIOU1yZiFHWmfAlHwUIcdi3O5dmzAtenf4TpwKI5NjRtOaBr2wVjEKcfE934hRXo51w1U8ebgNQNMQb82QjvARwCvwDRoDS4JGabyajFpZFH6OKKJb75_p/s400/blog4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570191066574434" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">This is a really cool looking city<br /><br /><br /></span></div><span style="font-size:100%;">For an afternoon snack, we went to Cafe du Monde and got beignets. </span><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0WTyyGtes5K_RDdVg8neGsQzsRNs7_1lqPVk1h5OJirYVjzvNPbQ4MlL3qEcfd_KfnUCGQeKN-uaQ0j00Rk3T1BlniX1aZsAG8hpkgI4iNn-yzLro42NfkfIvx5eK6HUNO4yTTELkMVfF/s1600/blog3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0WTyyGtes5K_RDdVg8neGsQzsRNs7_1lqPVk1h5OJirYVjzvNPbQ4MlL3qEcfd_KfnUCGQeKN-uaQ0j00Rk3T1BlniX1aZsAG8hpkgI4iNn-yzLro42NfkfIvx5eK6HUNO4yTTELkMVfF/s400/blog3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570287564794562" border="0" /></a>At first I thought all the powdered sugar might be a little over kill. Don't worry. It wasn't.<br /><br />After a little nap at the hotel, we went to dinner at <a href="http://www.mrbsbistro.com/index.php">Mr. B's Bistro</a>. K, this was seriously the most delicious and fanciest food I have ever had. Jordan got the fattest pork chop I have ever seen, and I got their signature barbecue shrimp. I was in HEAVEN. So good. Also, turns out they have the recipe for the shrimp on their website, and it doesn't look too complicated. Guess what the Smith family is eating for the rest of ever?<br /><br />Sunday we had a lazy morning-unfortunately we missed the meeting time for the only ward. We ordered room service, and got some great rest. In the afternoon we went to a family themed Mardi Gras parade, where Daisy was just an animal and got so many beads.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxh8DM9whkhjcEX6gvsi2zwACoD1mRFGBLfS2urJqMTBN4cloHslT5xxtRmU9iWwk_MmzfQRG2YWFb7kwb3Mr8TI7rLAUXKh3E7v-iMhcxjVkyxb3h2QzA8CZRPGYlldofAHHfqvd-yJ_u/s1600/photo-4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxh8DM9whkhjcEX6gvsi2zwACoD1mRFGBLfS2urJqMTBN4cloHslT5xxtRmU9iWwk_MmzfQRG2YWFb7kwb3Mr8TI7rLAUXKh3E7v-iMhcxjVkyxb3h2QzA8CZRPGYlldofAHHfqvd-yJ_u/s400/photo-4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570758362829074" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">Look how she attacks the baby bjorn! Honey Badger don't care!<br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;">It was a lot of fun. We had dinner at a little outdoor place called Cafe Amelie. It was the our first candle lit dinner under the stars! The food was delicious! Daisy slept the whole time!<br /><br />Monday Jordan had to work again, so Daisy and I walked along the Mississippi River, went back to Southern Candymakers (obvs) and explored the french quarter a little more. Of course we had yet another to die for dinner.<br /><br />It was the most perfect weekend. We had a wonderful time. New Orleans is a really cool and interesting city, and clearly from this post, offers delicious foods. The best part? This:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDME42KmWUCJbEEzGmWnSiGqb8u8EBxV0BnNpQOp8-QzvSOagZoLvks7TH_wYDlseugjgHLuRYQAygTrgBc5-eed3NLpmdSrse1doNpQx6iPsjuiS2i1Bb4-0-MbIhBwXnZjWDWuMDIk2J/s1600/blog1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDME42KmWUCJbEEzGmWnSiGqb8u8EBxV0BnNpQOp8-QzvSOagZoLvks7TH_wYDlseugjgHLuRYQAygTrgBc5-eed3NLpmdSrse1doNpQx6iPsjuiS2i1Bb4-0-MbIhBwXnZjWDWuMDIk2J/s400/blog1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707570563302030146" border="0" /></a></div></div><br /><br /><br /></div></div></div></div>Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-43437979397135419322012-01-31T14:48:00.000-08:002012-01-31T15:21:24.176-08:00Poop and other thingsSo every now and then I check this <a href="http://www.stfuparentsblog.com/">blog</a> that chronicles inappropriate facebook posts parents make about their babies. I do that partly because it's hilarious, and partly because I fear I might make it on there someday.<br /><br />One of the things that you aren't supposed to talk about on facebook is poop. I get that. It's gross. But guess what? This is my blog, and this poop story is hilarious. Don't worry though-I won't post the pictures :)<br /><br />So Jordan, Daisy and I went to my parents house for Christmas. I was in the kitchen making caramel, and Jordan was in the guest room changing Daisy's diaper. All of a sudden, I hear Jordan frantically yelling my name. I run into the room, thinking that something has gone terribly wrong (I am super paranoid all the time now, so of course my first thought was that Daisy was seizing or something like that) and I look at Daisy on our bed. She was just kicking her feet, looking around and being altogether cute. I asked Jordan what the problem was, and he replied with: "Look at me!" So I give Jordan a once over and then I really start to see what the problem was. Poop. Everywhere. There was a spray pattern all across his shirt-<span style="font-style: italic;">up into his beard!-</span><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span>across the wall, all over the bedside lamp....it was everywhere. Now, I should have rushed to his aid right then, but first I called my mom down so she could take pictures...poor guy.<br /><br />I just remembered that story the other day and had to share it.<br /><br />Daisy is starting to get a more normal schedule. We are still working on naps though. She is supposed to be asleep right now-I just fed her, got her to sleep, and placed her gently in her crib. The baby monitor is right next to me, and it sounds like Daisy has just woken up and is cooing and sneezing and making adorable sounds. I know I shouldn't go in and see if she will fall back asleep on her own...but I don't know how long I'll last. She is pretty great to cuddle with.<br /><br />My mom and I have started to do craft fairs. We have only done one, but I got enough to get an iphone, so we are optimistic. We are applying for another one this month. My mom makes these beautiful <a href="http://pinterest.com/melinda62/proof-i-can-finish-a-project/">quilts</a>, and I think for this next one I might make a coordinating set of crib bedding. I made Daisy's, and I think it would be fun to make some to match her quilts.<br /><br />We have an etsy shop, but I won't even post the link yet-we haven't uploaded any pictures of our products yet. But when we do, I will. My older sister is apart of this too, she also makes great quilts. Here is one she recently made for my grandma:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJNEJn5yBfM5JIdnsoeSo32C9xQ5g5C2eVqmbgaFqICC5eMqtPkkiM7sYlTEmBbckGaz7p-kbEZ3Rnms3DsZG9-eiMp_s8-aNry8dGlTrrsDxGjQbgRPdUkUm0B7Fksk2j0Hhcktqx2n5O/s1600/ashleyquilt.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJNEJn5yBfM5JIdnsoeSo32C9xQ5g5C2eVqmbgaFqICC5eMqtPkkiM7sYlTEmBbckGaz7p-kbEZ3Rnms3DsZG9-eiMp_s8-aNry8dGlTrrsDxGjQbgRPdUkUm0B7Fksk2j0Hhcktqx2n5O/s400/ashleyquilt.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703937261225326802" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This weekend Daisy and I are going to join Jordan in New Orleans. I am real excited. Jordan has to travel a lot for his job. It isn't nearly as bad as families in the military, but it still can be a downer. But! I get to spend my birthday with my husband and my baby in a city I've never been to.<br /><br />K, Daisy is refusing to go to sleep. I guess if she just <span style="font-style: italic;">insists</span> I can watch LOTR and cuddle with her. AGAIN. What a needy girl ;)Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-56837346298563964192012-01-25T19:46:00.000-08:002012-01-25T20:37:25.004-08:00Where to begin?So I haven't blogged since I popped Daisy out. Sorry about that. Having a baby around takes a while to get used to. Because I don't have a ton of time before I need to get back on tap (feed Daisy) I'll make this list more efficient with some lists.<br /><br />What I wish I had known about having a newborn:<br /><br />-It's okay if bonding doesn't happen right away. I probably won't tell her this, but I didn't feel like I had bonded with Daisy until weeks 3 or 4. Bonding is hard to describe, but I knew it hadn't happened yet. When I was left alone with her for the first time, I really did not like it. I was so tired, I didn't know what I was doing, and I felt so frustrated. I really resented taking care of her, and I hated feeling that way. When it happened, though...it was wonderful. Every baby book I had said what I went though (baby blues) are totally normal, I just never expected to not instantly fall in love with my sweet little baby. Don't worry-I can't get enough of her now.<br /><br />-Breastfeeding is hard. It took 4 days for my milk to come in. I expected it to happen after 1 or 2. That was super frustrating, because I really wanted to feed my baby. Also, for the first month or so...it really hurts, and can take a long time. Lanolin and gel pads saved my life.<br /><br />-You're not a bad mom if you give your baby formula. I wish I would have given her formula the first couple days as we were waiting for my milk to come in. She was fine, (newborns don't need a ton of food) it was her jaundice that the formula could have helped with. The type of jaundice she had gets better when breastmilk (or formula) flush it out of the baby's system. Since I didn't have any milk, I wish I would have given her formula. Her jaundice wouldn't have gotten as bad as it did, and Jordan and I would have felt so much less stressed. Not going to lie-we were freaking out a little bit. Also, every so often (If I have had a rough night) Jordan will let me sleep and give her a bottle. Daisy still latches on to me, my supply is still fine, Jordan gets some bonding time with Daisy, and I get some sleep. We all win.<br /><br />-Be prepared to be paranoid for life. Maybe it's just me, but I now feel ultra aware of anything that could ever go wrong with, or happen to Daisy. It can be stressful.<br /><br />-Little babies do great in movie theatres. Date night doesn't have to end! Daisy sleeps right through movies.<br /><br />No one cares if your dishes don't get done. You just had a baby. You get to do whatever you want.<br /><br />Recovery takes a lot longer than you think it will. I thought I felt fine, so I started walking all over the place and cleaning the kitchen floor (wtf, Jessica). But then, the drugs wore off. I felt like recovery was worse than labor and delivery. Next time I'm not doing anything. I'm taking all the offers people give to come over and cook, clean, and do whatever else I need.<br /><br />-Be prepared to turn into a facebook mom. I didn't think I'd be exclusively posting about Daisy every day....can't help it.<br /><br />Now for some stats on Daisy:<br /><br />-She is 11.5 weeks old!<br /><br />-At her 2 month appointment, she weighed 11lbs 9 oz, and was 23 inches long. Thats about a 3 lb and 3 inch gain from her birth stats!<br /><br />-She is so calm and happy. She rarely cries. Most of the time when she wants something, she just lets out a cute little noise. I feel really grateful that she is so calm.<br /><br />-The first time she smiled at me I died. Not literally.<br /><br />-She loves hearing her momma and poppa's voices. She always turns her head towards us and smiles.<br /><br />-She loves "You Are My Sunshine". It regularly calms her down and puts her to sleep.<br /><br />-She is starting to fall asleep without my help. She still won't sleep for very long during the day if not being held, but we are working on that. She now has one long stretch of sleep during the night, thank goodness.<br /><br />-She is starting to discover her hands. She sucks on them all the time, and I catch her studying them too. Last week she was able to reach for a toy and grab onto it. It doesn't happen often, but it's a skill she is developing.<br /><br />-Daisy is hilarious during tummy time. She lifts her head and shoulders for a while, but usually tummy time ends with her lying with her face on her side, cooing, and licking the blanket.<br /><br />-She loves bath time and getting her diaper changed.<br /><br /><br />Her blessing was this past weekend. It was a wonderful experience. My parents and Jordan's parents were able to come visit, and it was really great having all of them here. Daisy was treated like such a princess by the grandparents-plenty of new clothes :) My mom made her beautiful dress, and Jordan's mom gave Daisy a very pretty pearl bracelet. Jordan did a fantastic job with her blessing-he came back with sweat all over his face, poor guy was so nervous. His blessing for Daisy was perfect.<br /><br />K, this is a super long post. I'll catch up on more later. I've been cooking a lot more vegetarian meals lately, so I'd like to share about that. Jordan and I have weight loss goals and we are trying to work on that together-maybe if I blog about it, I'll be more diligent?<br /><br />K. Now pictures of the best baby ever.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIL_ITzi_M5yMIuM1qs_ekkCehQtlaPp5SfWHD6nBfdQOq7an68KGqGadF6iWjMv_IkVAISmkJV6uzsmvSf5R5a5xq4sR9sHHoD8m-b788CKYqqcmRnRB83GAJUQxvIO6cj00BsXkirMGV/s1600/daisyblog1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIL_ITzi_M5yMIuM1qs_ekkCehQtlaPp5SfWHD6nBfdQOq7an68KGqGadF6iWjMv_IkVAISmkJV6uzsmvSf5R5a5xq4sR9sHHoD8m-b788CKYqqcmRnRB83GAJUQxvIO6cj00BsXkirMGV/s400/daisyblog1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701794245967338450" border="0" /></a>Blowing milk bubbles bores Daisy I guess?<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KAWLxab8_YVNrPRz9ReqNQwfc2mUYAT_fPq1k5tI2nHg-EMGEZ6YbHos7DaD6prXIqBD2NnFWTCQcqALV43hn9gLxtidXr9-vMWKfdq5PfQe2idDoTZK9-VnNieFbHuC8RW6kn14p4Nk/s1600/daisyblog2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KAWLxab8_YVNrPRz9ReqNQwfc2mUYAT_fPq1k5tI2nHg-EMGEZ6YbHos7DaD6prXIqBD2NnFWTCQcqALV43hn9gLxtidXr9-vMWKfdq5PfQe2idDoTZK9-VnNieFbHuC8RW6kn14p4Nk/s400/daisyblog2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701794414456770530" border="0" /></a>Daisy with my dad<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcxtwUjCdCDcNCFCx8uoKgmPkiDYvJAbjxbGXzOxZMqweFdTMdD-tVb5p40RC3WtzFKeR-fxVlTZPzlW9_6mcFpzOezux4XdMQ_vIkZ8FhJgowQ9_QFyWvATm7iHvnseM9ZQztPPjQkDyR/s1600/daisyblog3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcxtwUjCdCDcNCFCx8uoKgmPkiDYvJAbjxbGXzOxZMqweFdTMdD-tVb5p40RC3WtzFKeR-fxVlTZPzlW9_6mcFpzOezux4XdMQ_vIkZ8FhJgowQ9_QFyWvATm7iHvnseM9ZQztPPjQkDyR/s400/daisyblog3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701794648829196274" border="0" /></a>OMNOMNOM<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXxmEBlkwe2ipMWMFdI9Wbpd6IUETv9rBjM5bvWBzbqvsYYaYH9qP5ty4jKkzdb3I9bg-CrfBo7-PQZ8EfrucshUPmZKErgngaYd6i1aG7g8ZW6s5EVM9XlCtE-lGEroM2kPI3KuIm_PN/s1600/daisyblog4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXxmEBlkwe2ipMWMFdI9Wbpd6IUETv9rBjM5bvWBzbqvsYYaYH9qP5ty4jKkzdb3I9bg-CrfBo7-PQZ8EfrucshUPmZKErgngaYd6i1aG7g8ZW6s5EVM9XlCtE-lGEroM2kPI3KuIm_PN/s400/daisyblog4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5701794742219365554" border="0" /></a>Nakey time is her favorite time.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-91715891274898574122011-11-10T13:16:00.000-08:002011-11-10T20:10:44.103-08:00All the gory detailsHere is the birth story, for any interested parties.<br /><br />WARNING: It might be gross<br /><br /><br />Sunday morning (my due date) I was lying in bed, about to get up and get ready for church. Jordan and I had spent some time after we woke up talking to my belly, giving baby girl a pep talk. I had just said to Jordan: "This day owes me a baby" when I felt a particularly strong kick, and heard a pop. I thought that was kind of weird, so I got up to go to the bathroom and make sure everything was normal. As soon as I was on my feet, I realized that I was doing some serious leaking, and it hit me that my water had broken. I had to tell Jordan about three times, he kept saying "what?!, wait, what?!"<br /><br />Panic mode.<br /><br />I had no idea what to do, so I stood in the bathtub to keep the floors clean while Jordan ran to grab my pregnancy reference book. The book said to call my Dr., so I made a call to my clinic and talked to a nurse. She confirmed that my water had broken, and told me to make my way to the hospital, and that she would contact my doctors and let the hospital know I was on the way.<br /><br />While I was taking a shower to clean myself off (it was sticky, gross) Jordan was running around the apartment freaking out. It was pretty funny, that adorable man. I could hear him running around and just yelling-not saying anything, just shouting "aaaahhhhh!". We got ready as fast as we could, and made our way to the hospital.<br /><br />Once there, we checked in and got a small triage room. They tested the leaking fluid to make sure it was amniotic fluid. The test came back positive, so they led me to my giant labor and delivery room. Seriously, this room was giant. There was a sitting area with a couch, coffee table, and chairs, the bathroom had a big whirlpool tub, and there was a ton of room for me to walk around while contracting.<br /><br />Up to that point, I hadn't really had consistent contractions. They were small, and 15 minutes apart. They decided to put me on a very small dose of pitocin to help speed things along. As soon as the iv was in, I felt like the contractions started to come really strong and really close together. This was at 2:00 pm- I did the whole "natural labor" thing for about three hours before deciding that I didn't want to feel that anymore. The contractions hurt like crazy, so I asked for an epidural.<br /><br />Oh, that epidural. Getting it put in was the worst. I was still contracting, and Jordan accidentally let me know how big the needle was before they stuck it in my back. Once it kicked in though...bliss. It was such a nice relief to not be feeling those contractions anymore. This was 5:30 pm. I couldn't walk around after the epidural, so I had to hang out on the bed for the rest of labor.<br /><br />It wasn't until 11:30 pm that I had dilated enough to begin pushing. This part was really hard. It seemed like no matter how hard I pushed, I never got any closer to delivering a baby. With each contraction, I would push as hard as I could, and then wait for the next one. This lasted for so so so long. I was so thirsty, but every time I would try and drink water I would start throwing up. Also, the epidural kept me from feeling the contractions, but I still felt all the pressure of a human slowing moving down the birth canal. I tried as hard as I could to not think of that pressure as pain, but it was a pretty fine line. I only looked at the clock a couple times, always surprised at how long it had been.<br /><br />After four hours of pushing, the doctors starting to talk to me about using a vacuum, and if that didn't work forceps, and if that didn't work a c-section. I knew I wanted to avoid the vacuum and forceps, and Jordan and I both felt hugely against a c-section. Thankfully, her heartbeat was good despite the time spent in the birth canal, so they let me opt to keep pushing. This was the point where I feel like I was outside my body. I was just so exhausted, and I could feel baby girl's head move forward with each push, and then move back. I felt like everything in my body was turned of,f and I was just watching myself push and push and push, take a break waiting for the next contraction, throw up, and then start again.<br /><br />Finally, her head got out. She had been looking sideways, so her head was getting stuck. The poor girl, her head was so bruised and so swollen. There were a couple sores where blisters had formed and ruptured. I didn't see them pull her out of me, I was so tired and was so in the mindset that I had to keep pushing that I didn't even realize she was out until Jordan told me to look. I saw her just as they were lifting her up, and placing her on my chest. I couldn't believe it! They gave me a baby! It was over! She was finally born at 5:03 am after fourteen hours of labor (from the time my water broke) and five and a half hours of pushing. Jordan and I just held her little hands, counted her fingers and toes, and laughed. It was awesome. I was so glad that it was over, and so glad that our baby was there. We knew looking at her that she was Daisy.<br /><br />After Jordan cut the cord, he and the nurses took Daisy away to clean her up, weigh and measure her (7 lbs 10 oz, 20 in), and do all the security measures. Her footprints were recorded on a sheet with my finger prints, a tag was attached to her umbilical cord stub that has a chip in it to shut down elevators and stairwells so no one could take her, and matching wrist tags for all three of us. Meanwhile, the doctors were attending to me. Thankfully, I barely tore-just one stitch. I pushed out the placenta, and they carried it over to me to show it to me. It was super gross and pretty fascinating. They lifted up the opening for me to see where Daisy and floated around for nine months, and it was hard to believe that it held my baby. It looked so thin! I can't believe it didn't pop before then.<br /><br />We were taken to our recovery room, which was super nice-a HUGE shower-and promptly passed out.<br /><br />We are so glad to be home with our Daisy, and so in love with her. She is just super adorable.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-77169681774943608872011-11-05T21:38:00.000-07:002011-11-05T21:50:08.119-07:00Fighting PicklesSo the elevator in our building smells EXACTLY like the elevator in the dorm I lived in at art school.<br /><br />I was just looking at some pictures from back then, watching my giant baby belly move, and thought to myself: "Wow. Aren't things different now?" It's been so long (5 years? 6 years?) that I don't really think about it that often...that is until I finally made the connection between the elevator smells. Weird sentence, I know, but it was only last week that I realized where I knew that smell from, and felt like I was right back on the third floor.<br /><br />I definitely miss parts of it. I miss working long hours with really talented people. I miss being able to focus all my time on art stuff. I miss the novelty of living away from home for the first time. I miss the friends I made.<br /><br />Our lives are all so different now, and even though I occasionally indulge in daydreams of me living lives like them-living in a big city, working as an artist...I'm happy with the choices I made. I'm glad I left art school for BYU, glad I got married, and real glad to be expecting a baby. I still paint. Not as often as I would like, but I still do. I hope I always will.<br /><br />Jordan is really supportive of me making art. He never wants that part of me to become less of a priority. What a gem.<br /><br />Anyways, tomorrow is my due date. Tomorrow owes me a baby.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-50289641812783685762011-10-31T20:13:00.000-07:002011-10-31T20:27:54.845-07:00Packed bagsI'm starting to get nervous.<br /><br />Before now, I knew I wasn't going into labor anytime soon because I couldn't go into labor while Jordan was on his business trip. He got home Thursday night, and since then I've been using other things I've been putting off to mentally delay the thought of going into labor. Here are some examples"<br /><br />I can't go into labor until I have the apartment really really clean.<br /><br />I can't go into labor until I have my bag packed.<br /><br />I can't go into labor until we unpack and set up the car seat, stroller, and bassinet.<br /><br />I can't go into labor until I finish all the headbands and clips for the craft fair.<br /><br />Well...Jordan started to notice I was putting some of this off. So unfortunately for my sanity, the apartment is nearly spotless (just bathrooms left), the baby gear is out of the boxes and set up, my bag is packed, and I am nearly done with all the hair clips.<br /><br />I know last post I was all "GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME", but now that it is getting closer, it's starting me make me really nervous. Really, I know I still have two weeks. My due date is six days away, but it is pretty likely that I'll be late. My doctor will induce me after going a week or so over...but that doesn't stop me from obsessing over every braxton hicks contraction, or thinking to myself every morning: "Is this the day?"<br /><br />It's okay though. We have a ton of ice cream in the freezer now. So. That makes me feel better.<br /><br />It also makes me feel better knowing that we have so many people around us that care and want to help out. Our families have been sending us stuff non stop, and have been calling me almost every day to see how I'm doing. A friend in my ward threw me a surprise baby shower (I thought I was going to be babysitting her baby, so I showed up in stretchy pants and one of Jordan's shirts-wear what fits, right?-still embarrassing), which was such a nice surprise. I feel like I've made some real nice friends here.<br /><br />Anyways, I'm starting to get real nervous about labor, but it's okay. I know it will be just fine, and our baby will come out all normal and healthy and stuff. One of the things I am the most excited for is to see Jordan hold her for the first time. This is going to be really sappy, so I'm sorry...but it just melts my heart anytime he talks about her, and I can't wait to see him be a dad. He is going to be so great.<br /><br />We have been having a real nice fall-apple orchards, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, donuts, costumes, etc. We don't take any pictures ever. We need to get better about this when our baby comes.<br /><br />I'll keep everyone posted, I promise.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-81883459431471421392011-10-24T12:14:00.000-07:002011-10-24T12:16:08.401-07:00GrossMy feet are so swollen, my toes are sticking out at weird angles.<br /><br /><br />Two weeks.<br /><br /><br />Jordan is out of town until Thursday night. It's close though! So here are some in progress pictures:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFV9RpwUxiGvex3A_JlRKA2mM77KY_4QIuFeEVfxtbP94sLltre_h-f2daoR3NmjwbFrg_iWK8UVsH1Xn1BqpbKTKo8GgImKGCIodfpiGvDSTEo8r5LJBFIi17Gz09sriR_1eEIM4wgo6p/s1600/PA100004.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFV9RpwUxiGvex3A_JlRKA2mM77KY_4QIuFeEVfxtbP94sLltre_h-f2daoR3NmjwbFrg_iWK8UVsH1Xn1BqpbKTKo8GgImKGCIodfpiGvDSTEo8r5LJBFIi17Gz09sriR_1eEIM4wgo6p/s400/PA100004.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661983600762757314" border="0" /></a>Here is the crib. The crib skirt and sheet are from sheets found at a thrift store (and washed real well, don't worry). unfortunately, I didn't have enough of the yellow floral material to make a ruffled crib skirt so it is just boring straight panels. The outside of the bumper is from fabric I got at Joanns (but don't worry! I used a coupon!) and the inside is fabric my Mom sent me.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Zjw6fA7uUttyN0DDB3KBlMgIFQoeZ_ZXm-mfooy-RO2VV79RlBEP3GR9gxX_ErtPhPD3AQFVH8FYnpxRmVTnvIdHdThP2sbDhi9Sn6NHB3OOnyT0AVS1fA35AJBLO_VdxzMnu0fN8bHj/s1600/PA100005.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Zjw6fA7uUttyN0DDB3KBlMgIFQoeZ_ZXm-mfooy-RO2VV79RlBEP3GR9gxX_ErtPhPD3AQFVH8FYnpxRmVTnvIdHdThP2sbDhi9Sn6NHB3OOnyT0AVS1fA35AJBLO_VdxzMnu0fN8bHj/s400/PA100005.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661983887266713538" border="0" /></a><br />That cute elephant was given to us by my Aunt Jennifer. Also a small piece of the curtains-the color isn't the best in the picture of the curtains, they are greener than they seem.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7ZISE58FZR_WqpoNaBUIjFS5xf0Rekk90e84P5HsAgClixFeJxQh2M-fvr1PCH9Yh8PG5svn5eQXoRfVG21_yjdkJvzjDq7pqr8yiKed3OYD8511JDU-hM0u1iUXiD1xJOWfPSG1zRYgp/s1600/PA100011.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7ZISE58FZR_WqpoNaBUIjFS5xf0Rekk90e84P5HsAgClixFeJxQh2M-fvr1PCH9Yh8PG5svn5eQXoRfVG21_yjdkJvzjDq7pqr8yiKed3OYD8511JDU-hM0u1iUXiD1xJOWfPSG1zRYgp/s400/PA100011.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661985143802293922" border="0" /></a>I have two pieces of this fabric, and I love it so much I can't bear to cut into it. I just wanted to show you this great lamp. Another thrift store find, and I recovered the shade with fabric from an old dress that needed too many modesty modifications to make it worth it. I have more of that material, and I will probably make something cute for Babygirl (once I get better at sewing. It's happening!)<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitc0WKBglqEaKqp511GeMr5A3GmoplVl7Iz44nvFvc8zNYhlYe68orVxcIlSO17zc296yrfPGtqjfjPKTzOIBt5XkbGMkM3lB_wxW2bP6VgR1FvuP4Tp38M9vrDwA8jv5pxFYOyYHR0eTc/s1600/PA100013.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitc0WKBglqEaKqp511GeMr5A3GmoplVl7Iz44nvFvc8zNYhlYe68orVxcIlSO17zc296yrfPGtqjfjPKTzOIBt5XkbGMkM3lB_wxW2bP6VgR1FvuP4Tp38M9vrDwA8jv5pxFYOyYHR0eTc/s400/PA100013.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5661985613321878610" border="0" /></a>Not my favorite chair, but it is going to be great for nursing. The recovered lamp will go there.<br /><br />Not pictured are some more stuff for the walls-I can't paint the walls, so I want to have plenty of stuff up to make the room more exciting than it is. I have some cool old platters, some more fabric to affix to canvases, and a couple watercolors of giraffes and hot air balloons and stuff. I also want to get/make some letters and put her name on the wall. Won't be doing that until after she is born, because although we are 98% certain about her name, we aren't telling just in case we decide we need to change it. It makes the simplest things really painful-putting on pants, getting into the car, getting out of bed, switching sleeping positions...basically any time I move my left leg. Once I start walking, the pain calms down, but getting started is more painful than it should be. So I talked to the Dr. about it today, and this is what is going on-normally during this late stage of pregnancy, my body sends out hormones or chemicals or whatever that cause the ligaments around my pelvis and pubic bone to relax and loosen, preparing for delivery. Mine went overboard, and now my pubic bone is all misaligned and that is what is causing me really annoying pain. The best part? There is nothing that can be done. It will fix itself after I give birth (thank goodness) but until then, I just have to deal with it. Maybe by itself it would be fine, but add on the back pain, and leg cramps, and heartburn...no thank you. All I can do is slow down, take it easy, and take frequent rests. Good thing we have netflix.<br /><br /><br />Ugh, k I had this big long post written but it turns out I published it to a different blog that I technically contribute to, but never actually contribute to. The above paragraph was all I was able to save-which is a shame because it is definitely the grumpiest. Here are the main points I lost:<br /><br />-My mom is great at quilting and doing a craft fair, and wants me to send her some headbands to sell at her booth. So I'm making a ton. Pictures to come.<br /><br />-I'm glad I never had the money to spend on stuff we don't need: read <a href="http://www.kiplinger.com/columns/kiptips/archives/10-things-new-parents-dont-need.html">this article</a><br /><br />-I'll have pictures of the baby's room soon.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-37155597758952010862011-09-13T16:44:00.001-07:002011-09-13T16:45:47.129-07:00Good to Know<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3uSX7eXJ7cdy5N4d7g6lf4IzFpOxfQhTUZcGmYfRJSS-09O48csCzeOtza2VfKCFgmtYme90aMqOQ7nuu40b7dC9ZMaoVZ7AQPowTFrrGjv0dGBonTs2xes6EfCr9GNsGc9oG_ZWSNJhA/s1600/baby1_rect540.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3uSX7eXJ7cdy5N4d7g6lf4IzFpOxfQhTUZcGmYfRJSS-09O48csCzeOtza2VfKCFgmtYme90aMqOQ7nuu40b7dC9ZMaoVZ7AQPowTFrrGjv0dGBonTs2xes6EfCr9GNsGc9oG_ZWSNJhA/s400/baby1_rect540.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651994373988931938" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Just some parenting notes I'm taking in.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-8982672705707210962011-09-09T12:23:00.000-07:002011-09-09T14:21:07.675-07:00VictoryGuyz. Just got back from a bunch of yard sales. I'm really proud of what I got, and since this is my blog and I get to write about whatever the heck I want,<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>I am going to list my bounty below:<br /><br />1 Baby Bjorn carrier<br />1 crib mattress cover<br />2 changing table covers<br />4 blankets<br />6 wee hats<br />1 hooded towel<br />8 burp cloths<br />2 pairs of tights<br />11 pairs of socks<br />19 onsies<br />2 hooded jackets<br />9 dresses<br />1 adorable cardigan<br />14 pairs of pants<br />11 footed sleepers/pj's<br />6 shirts<br /><br /><br />And I only paid $30 for all of that. Only a few of the items here were for newborns or 0-3 months. I got most of that from people selling clothes on craigslist. Today I started getting clothes for 3 months and beyond, because I did not want to be in a bind once Babygirl grows out of the smaller sizes.<br /><br />I know this is boring information, but I'm really happy I got so much for so little.Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-5059371129597246122011-09-03T20:15:00.000-07:002011-09-03T20:33:52.135-07:00Getting ReadySo I've started making headbands for Babygirl.
<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhthAFrAOUzbm3qo9ZG8JWPmuT1NtXH5rYSTZ3phwjSy-ypY2IW9UxIB5_UqipJEK1hvOERt2o6JIJhsP8dDimYxvwIff5jJaP7lHuAUzUcmLr4rzsFFP2TJt_Msx5osCnaH5NGhh2d1pbQ/s1600/photo.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 299px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhthAFrAOUzbm3qo9ZG8JWPmuT1NtXH5rYSTZ3phwjSy-ypY2IW9UxIB5_UqipJEK1hvOERt2o6JIJhsP8dDimYxvwIff5jJaP7lHuAUzUcmLr4rzsFFP2TJt_Msx5osCnaH5NGhh2d1pbQ/s400/photo.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648338692117768770" border="0" /></a>
<br />
<br />I am going to experiment a little bit with these. On the back I have sewn a little snap button. My plan is to make some elastic headbands, and sew the other side of the little snap button onto the elastic headband. That way, you can change the flower or bow on any given elastic band-I decided to try this because I wanted to make some headbands in fun colors, but didn't want to have to make a million. This way, I make one band in each color I choose, and then I can pick whatever flower or bow to snap on. My worry is that some of the larger flowers might be floppy when snapped on. We will see. If that is the case, I'll just give the larger flowers their own band.
<br />
<br />We have also started to work on getting clothes for Babygirl. I would love to buy everything at baby gap, but unfortunately that is just not an option. So I have been stalking craigslist, and found a ton of ladies that are selling their barely used baby girl clothes for incredibly cheap. I have spent maybe $35 so far and have bags of clothes. This way I can get a couple awesome things from baby gap, and all the sleepers and day clothes for super cheap.
<br />
<br />This week's project will be sewing the crib bedding and curtains. About two months ago I got some great old sheets at a thrift store. I'm going to make the crib skirt out of that, and I got some really cute flannel for the sheet. I'm using my old duvet cover from college to make the curtains. I really like the material, and I am excited to be able to reuse as much as I can.
<br />
<br />I don't know if I will get around to this, but I have found some online tutorials for little dresses. I'm not too confident about my garment sewing abilities...so if I never mention sewing clothes for Babygirl agian, assume that it did not go well. if it works out, of course I'll post pictures.
<br />
<br />Jordan leaves for another trip this Tuesday. Don't worry, I've calmed down about his travelling a ton since his first trip. In fact, the second trip passed by so fast I hardly had time to notice it. K, exaggeration, but whatever. I get a ton done when he is on a business trip. I think it has something to do with me not doing any cooking or laundry.
<br />
<br />Anyways, just wanted to share some of the stuff I'm making for Babygirl. My mom is awesome and sent me a ton of great fabric, so I will probably be making some bows out of some of that. Also my sister is in labor with her second boy as we speak, and I got some great houndstooth flanel for some bowties for her boys. I'll probably make something scholarly for Babygirl with the extra material.
<br />
<br />Glue gun is still on. K bye.
<br />Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-14235050357349340822011-08-25T06:20:00.001-07:002011-08-25T06:20:35.658-07:00Two months?!This might sound silly, but I only just realized that I have two months and twelve days until baby girls due date. <br /><br />PANIC MODE<br /><br />I'm starting to get pretty stressed about getting everything we need, getting her room all set up, picking a name, becoming mentally prepared...oh, and pushing a human out of me. Yea, I'd say I'm particularly nervous about that last part. <br /><br />So Jordan and I decided last night that now is the time to put our efforts and budget toward getting ready for the baby. <br /><br />One nice thing about living out here is that there are tons of nice fairly new baby stuff for sale on craigslist. So many people here only have one or two kids, so they have no need to hang on to all the clothes, toys, furniture, and baby gear. It's also usually a really nice brand too. Already we got a crib off craigslist for free. I've been looking, and there are. Bunch of people selling all of their baby clothes together for about $.50 an item. That us going to suit our budget much better than buying everything new. If we can get a ton of day and night time outfits off craigslist, I can go and get the little dresses at baby gap that taunt me everytime I see them. <br /><br />Thankfully I'm nearly done with the paintings I wanted to finish before the baby came. I haven't made a ton of headway on the watercolors I'm doing for the baby's room, but I thing I'll be able to get everything done. <br /><br />Still. Pretty nervous. Also excited, but right now mostly nervous. Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-53634301759823120582011-08-20T18:03:00.001-07:002011-08-20T18:03:54.645-07:00:'(K I'm really sorry, but I'm going to complain some more. I'm typing this on the tiny keys if my itouch, because today my computer died. It would cost between $300-$700 to fix, and we decided not to fix it for the following reasons:<br /><br />That is a lot of money that we need for the baby and other stuff<br /><br />We have been planning on getting a new iMac around Christmas anyways<br /><br />My Mac was five years old-pretty old for a computer<br /><br />I'm still really sad though. I have an external hard drive, so I didn't lose anything important...but I loved my computer! I don't know that using my iPod to view reference photos for art projects will work as well. <br /><br />Jordan's computer died when we moved, but he does have one for work. My dad has offered to send me a thinkpad that he currently doesn't need, and he will put Linux on it for me. I'm really grateful for that... It hasn't been a full day but I'm already starting to realize how dependent I am on having a computer. <br /><br />I felt like such a spoiled brat, crying over losing my Mac, but I just cry over everything these days. <br /><br />On my way home from the apple store I got myself some "I'm sad and pregnant" food. I should never go to the store when I'm hungry and hormonal, this is what I end up getting:<br /><br />Mac & cheese<br />Ice cream<br />Double stuft Oreos<br />Funsize candy bars<br /><br />I have hardly touched any of it, the emotions and craving passed...but this week is another business trip week, so now I'm at least stocked up. <br /><br />Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6119134015751074031.post-65191284287695950052011-08-16T17:14:00.000-07:002011-08-16T17:53:43.146-07:00Being a Hermit and Imma Complain a Ton<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaa5x0vqvrGgV4wqqsEgZa4cKTGMIBwwYP02qt7aWrvV27CPRNrQUhkmrLF2kD61llrD_oZnUpQX5jOSPmQj1ZNKZuT8W5FQ3xFMpNP_h3-s9B0SywNSGTvH9vi6XiBqCxS6QyBwYPsIiT/s1600/P8160007.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>Guyz. Jordan is on a business trip. Which means that I am alone all the time. <div>
<br /></div><div>It hasn't been that bad...but he only left yesterday. He is in Georgia, and he will get back Thursday night. But then next Monday...he leaves AGAIN. This time for New Orleans. He will be gone for the same amount of time. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>These are the things I have decided I need to do every day to stay sane.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Shower</div><div>Change clothes</div><div>Have somewhat normal meal times</div><div>Leave the apartment building</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Sounds so simple, but when you know you aren't going to have any human contact, it is hard to convince yourself to put forth the effort.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>The main problem with him traveling is that I am still working on making friends here. I feel really comfortable hanging out with couples in our ward...but I haven't branched out to individual hangouts yet. I guess I haven't had to make new friends in so long I am having a hard time remembering how. I feel a little uncomfortable thinking about asking someone to hang out with me during the day. Most of the women I have met have at least one kid, so I know that they are busy with that and have routines and stuff. I'm probably being way too self conscious about this, and should just ask someone to hang out with me. But that is so much easier said than done (for me). </div><div>
<br /></div><div>This is what I miss the most about Provo. We knew so many people. I really miss my job at the MOA. I liked what I did, and I had great co workers that made it so much fun. Jordan and I both had a ton of friends from our hometowns, cousins...plenty of people that I felt comfortable just calling or texting to do something. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>I don't want to sound too "woe is me". I really do like it here. But I would be fooling myself if I didn't say that I get lonely sometimes. I totally do. I'm only now thinking about it though because Jordan isn't here so it's magnified by a billion. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>Also making me feel it all the more are my raging pregnancy hormones. I have really been noticing the emotional roller coaster factor as of late. We were shopping over the weekend because Jordan needed new work clothes, and I don't fit into anything. I couldn't find anything that looked good with my giant belly, I was feeling stressed about spending money on clothes when we just bought a bed and have plenty of other things to save for, and before I could even try to calm myself down I burst into tears in the middle of the store. I felt so stupid and Jordan felt like a jerk, even though he did nothing wrong and had nothing to do with me not finding any flattering clothing. He just always feels like it's his fault when I cry, which is sweet but problematic as I cry over everything these days. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>I hate having a closet full of clothes that don't fit. And I hate the idea of spending money on clothes I will only wear for a couple months. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>Babygirl is making herself at home in my abdomen, kicking my ribs and pressing agains my sciatic nerve. The rib kicking I will take, but the sciatica is awful and hurts really bad. She doesn't do it all the time, probably every couple days she will find her way there and and set up camp for the day. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>Still working on names. Part of my outing today (to keep myself showered and sane) was going to Barnes and Noble to read some baby name books. I found some new names to add to the list, though I haven't ran these by Jordan yet so they might not be contenders. I haven't thought about then too much either, they just caught my eye. Here they are:</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Mirabelle</div><div>Sadie</div><div>Zora</div><div>Viola</div><div>Adela</div><div>Nora</div><div>Maisie</div><div>Amelie</div><div>Everly</div><div>Elsa</div><div>Elsie</div><div>Mira</div><div>Adena</div><div>Arabel</div><div>Blossom</div><div>Arden </div><div>Estelle</div><div>
<br /></div><div>
<br /></div><div>Ugh. There are just too many options. I am worried I will never feel really excited about a name. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>K. Enough complaining and getting stressed out about names. here, as promised, is a picture of mah baybee belleh. I don't think this picture does it justice. </div><div>

With a belly picture, because I'm getting huge and I'm sure everyone is super interested in how far my belly sticks out now. (Pretty far)<div><br /></div><div>Looking at our budget and stuff the other day I realized I won't be able to get living room furniture for a while, sad face. For some reason I was emotionally attached to the idea of replacing our stake center (truly, directly from a stake center) couch and chair with some nicer seating as soon as possible. Now it is looking like it will probably be my Christmas present at the earliest. I mean, I guess we could go out today and get stuff, but we want to pay cash because it's just better all around to not buy things you don't have the money for. Stupid responsibility. Anyways, I am now working on making our living room awesome despite the worst couch ever. </div><div><br /></div><div>I am also getting started on projects for BabyGirl. I want her room to be great, and I want to make her a lot of stuff myself so she always has it. I'll post pictures of the watercolors once they are in a condition to post.</div><div><br /></div><div>Wisconsin is still nice. People in our ward have been great, and I finally printed some pictures from our wedding to put up.</div><div><br /></div><div>The name list is getting longer. We both started really looking at name websites and stuff, and the list has expanded. It is going to get smaller with time, I don't want to go into the hospital with a list that is too huge. Here are some ideas we have, feel free to make suggestions!</div><div><br /></div><div>Violet</div><div>Dahlia</div><div>Ruby (Jordan's favorite, but I don't think this is her name)</div><div>Lucy</div><div>Hazel</div><div>Isabel</div><div>Lola</div><div>Daisy</div><div>Aurora</div><div>Tallulah</div><div>Adah</div><div>Matilda</div><div>Adelle</div><div><br /></div><div>There are definitely more, we have a list written down but I'm not sure where it is right now. Suggestions? Opinions? Any of these too easy for school kids to make fun of?</div><div><br /></div>Jessica Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01878803929033256617noreply@blogger.com7
